PE and school sport strategy for young people

The overall aim of the PE and Sport Strategy is to enhance the take-up of sporting opportunities by 5 to 16 year-olds.

The aim for 2012 was for each child to have access to sporting opportunities of five hours a week.

This should be made up of two hours of physical education within the curriculum and three hours offered on school sites or in the community.

The PE and Sport Strategy has key strands, each designed to maximise opportunities for young people to access high quality PE and school sport.

The schools and young people team play a role in the delivery of the Government’s physical education and school sport for young people strategy which is a desire for every pupil to be able to access a minimum of two hours high quality physical education and school sport within and outside the curriculum as part of the five hour offer.
